“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” – Psalms 51:10

The “heart” refers to our hidden, inner seat of desires and affections. The loyalty of the heart determines the spirit and attitude with which we do things. You will be motivated and in high spirits to work for that which your heart desires.  

Sadly, the heart of fallen mankind finds its loyalty torn between multiple desires. These opposing affections of the heart results in fluctuations in our motivation. On some days, you feel motivated to spend time with God, praying fervently and meditating on His Word, while at other times your spirit is just not willing. Are you tired of such fluctuations in your spirit? Cry out to God, who alone can give us a heart that is purely devoted to seeking and serving Him consistently, with a willing and steadfast spirit.
