All of God’s commandments are given for His glory and for our good. Because we were created for His glory, it brings us deep benefit and joy when we walk in obedience to Him. The Sabbath was a beautiful example of this. God gave it to the children of Israel as a day of rest—a time to pause in His presence and be renewed with the strength only He gives.
But we must be careful not to turn God’s good commandments into burdensome rules. The Pharisees did just that, adding heavy traditions to the Sabbath that made it more about restriction than rest and what was meant to refresh the soul became a day filled with fear of failure. Instead, let us delight in God and embrace the rest that He gives us. May our rest be a time of worship, joy, and renewal as we draw near to the One who made us and sustains us.
