In the Parable of the Sower, Jesus describes a second set of seeds that fell on shallow soil over rocky ground. Though they sprouted quickly, they withered just as fast—lacking deep roots. This soil represents people with shallow hearts who are quick to receive the gospel but lack the depth to endure hardship. When trials or persecution come, their faith fades.
In today’s fast-paced, throwaway culture, it’s easy to become superficial—quick to accept, quicker to abandon. We often treat our faith the same way, embracing God’s Word when it’s easy but walking away when it challenges or costs us something. God calls us to a deeper life—one rooted in commitment, nourished by the truth, and anchored in love. Let us examine our hearts. Are we rooted in Christ or are we living on the surface?
