From the day you were born a lifelong journey began,
As you took little steps to excel as best as you can.
On foundations laid in books, schoolrooms and exams,
You rose in stature, to applause and clapping hands.
The day came when you could stand on your own two feet,
You were in charge of your life, firmly in the driver’s seat.
But you pushed yourself harder, chasing more to gain,
Striving day and night, through turmoil and through pain.
Till one fateful day, tragedy darkened your sky,
And you saw all too late that the race was an empty lie.
Don’t let that be the tale of your fleeting days,
For life is more than food, clothing or man’s empty praise.
There is no profit in gaining the world and losing your soul.
May the wellbeing of your heart be your greatest goal.
