Jesus warned His disciples that a dark moment was coming—a moment foretold in Scripture—when He would be struck, and they would all fall away. Peter, bold and confident, could not imagine such a failure. He loudly declared his loyalty, ready to prove Jesus wrong. Yet, when the hour came, fear overcame him. Peter denied his Lord three times and wept bitterly for it.
Confidence is valuable, but overconfidence in our own strength blinds us to reality and sets us up for a fall. The proud heart often resists correction and closes its ears to wise counsel. True strength is found in humble dependence on God. Are you willing to listen when others point out your faults? Do you acknowledge your weaknesses and seek the Lord’s help to overcome them? Like Peter, we may stumble, but God’s grace lifts the humble. Rely not on your own strength but on His unfailing power to guide you and keep you from falling.
