“Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” – Mark 14:38

aug 11

In His final moments before arrest, Jesus urged His disciples to stay awake and pray. They felt confident they would never fail Him, yet they underestimated the weakness of their flesh. When the moment of testing came, self-preservation triumphed over their noble intentions, and they fled.

We too may have sincere desires to honor God, but without vigilance, our flesh can easily undermine our spirit’s resolve. Temptations often slip in quietly, appealing to our comfort, fear, or pride. This is why Jesus calls us to be both watchful and prayerful, alert to danger and anchored in divine strength. Through prayer, we draw on the grace of Christ, whose power is made perfect in our weakness. The Holy Spirit within us enables us to overcome and live for God’s glory, steadfast even in the face of trial.
