It is easy to hide anger behind polite words and a forced smile. We may say “peace be with you” outwardly, while secretly wishing harm upon someone. Scripture warns that such concealment is deception, and eventually, hidden hatred will erupt. Bitterness cannot stay buried forever; it eats away at the heart like a slow disease.
The answer is not to vent every hateful thought, but to seek a change of heart. Left unchecked, hatred grows, but Christ offers the cure. While we were still His enemies, Jesus loved us and died for us. In Him, bitterness gives way to forgiveness, and hatred is transformed into love. When we invite Jesus to heal our wounded hearts, He replaces anger with compassion. Only His Spirit enables us to love our enemies and to speak peace with sincerity. True freedom from hatred comes not through concealment, but through the transforming love of Christ.
