When Judah faced the terrifying threat of Assyria, they turned to Egypt and Cush for help instead of turning to the Lord. They had lost the reverential fear of God, and when that happens, it is replaced by the dreadful fear of everything else takes. Judah hoped that human strength would save them, but those very nations were soon crushed by the enemy they feared.
When we lose our awe of God and drift from His grace, we start depending on frail human power, wisdom, wealth, or influence. Yet, every human ally has limits. None can save us from life’s ultimate enemies—sin, death, and the grave. Only Jesus conquered them all. So where is your trust today? In people who perish, or in Christ who triumphed over death and lives forever? Only in Him will you never be dismayed or ashamed.
