“A horse is prepared for the day of battle, but victory is of the LORD.” – Proverbs 21:31

In ancient times, horses and chariots symbolized strength, strategy, and security in warfare. Nations trusted in their military power, often forgetting that no amount of preparation could guarantee triumph. God repeatedly reminded His people not to run to foreign nations for horses or lean solely on human strength. Victory, He declared, comes from Him alone.

Preparation is wise and necessary. God calls us to plan, to labour diligently, and to seek counsel. Yet we must settle this truth in our hearts: success is not the fruit of our efforts alone. It is the Lord who establishes victory. Without Him, even the best strategies can fail; with Him, even weakness can be turned to strength. Some trust in resources, skills, or human allies. But as God’s people, our confidence rests in Him. True victory is not secured by might or planning, but by His sovereign hand.
