“And He will delight in the fear of the LORD…” – Isaiah 11:3

oct4

Isaiah foretold that the Spirit of the Lord would rest upon the Messiah, and that He would delight in the fear of the Lord. How perfectly this was fulfilled in Jesus. Though He was fully God and fully man—divinity and humanity in perfect harmony—He chose to humble Himself to the will of the Father. This was not done grudgingly, but joyfully, for He delighted in the fear of the Lord. His love for the Father made obedience His greatest joy.

Do you delight in the fear of the LORD, or do you live in dread of Him? Some live in fear of His judgment, obeying only out of dread of consequences. This produces weariness and bondage. But the love of God drives out such fear. The higher way is to walk as Jesus did—with reverential awe, delighting in the Father’s will. True freedom and joy are found in this holy fear borne from divine love.
