The people had just witnessed a miracle. A man tormented by demons for years was now completely restored—clothed, calm, and in his right mind. Yet instead of rejoicing, the people were afraid. The loss of a herd of pigs and the presence of the supernatural made them uncomfortable. Rather than welcome Jesus, they asked Him to leave.
This response still echoes today. The Bible says that in the last days, people will be lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. Many adhere to a form of religion but deny God’s power over their lives. Few truly surrender to Christ. Why? Because surrender means giving up control. We want to be the kings of our own lives, to predict and manage our outcomes. But Jesus calls us to trust Him, even when His ways are beyond our understanding. Will you ask Him to leave—or will you surrender and let Him truly reign in your life?
