Our perceptions of holy men and women can differ widely. Some see them as ascetics, leading silent and secluded lives atop mountain peaks, disapproving of anything unconventional. Others imagine them as bold and outspoken, ready to summon fire on those who challenge their understanding of God. However, a display of external intolerance that instills fear in others does not reflect the love of God.
A child of God cannot attain holiness through their own efforts. It is God, through Christ, who qualifies us as holy, righteous, and beloved in His sight. True holiness manifests in the love we receive from God, a love that removes arrogance, pride, unkindness, harshness, and impatience. Instead, it clothes us with hearts of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Such an exhibition of true holiness becomes possible when we constantly remain in the love of Christ.
