“But now you must put aside all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips…” – Colossians 3:8

When a person comes to faith in Christ, they experience a profound new birth from within. However, this transformation does not result in instant perfection. The regenerate soul must still contend with the passions of the fallen flesh, as described in 1 Peter 2:11. Yet, as this individual focuses on the new life they have in Christ, the allure of earthly desires and fleshly passions begins to fade, growing strangely dim.

If you find yourself struggling to overcome the sinful desires of the flesh, a radical shift in attitude and focus is essential. Recognize that these sinful inclinations are not only displeasing to the God you love but also detrimental to your spiritual journey. Continuously remind yourself of the liberating truth: you are dead to sin and alive to God, as you redirect your attention from gratifying the flesh to loving God.
