“But You, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.” – Psalms 86:15

We rejoice when the Lord showers us with undeserved favor and withholds punishment for our indiscipline. Yet, we become upset when He does the same for those who have acted unjustly towards us. Since God shows no partiality, He is slow to anger and abounding in love not only towards us but also towards the people He has placed in our lives.

How can I learn not to be upset when God chooses to be patient and merciful to those who wrong me? I need to feel and act as He does. I need to experience and grasp the dimensions of God’s love by the power of His Spirit so that I may be filled with His goodness. Let us then pray not for the downfall of our oppressors, but rather that God would pour His love into our hearts so that we can show grace and mercy to everyone who needs it.
