Jesus reminds us that everyone will encounter fire—either in this life or the next. Just prior to this, He warned of the fire of judgment awaiting those who persist in rebellion. But for those who choose the path of faith and obedience, there is another kind of fire—the refining fire that purifies them like gold.
At times, it’s tempting to envy the wicked who seem to prosper without hardship. Yet Scripture assures us: their ease is temporary. The fire of judgment awaits. But for God’s children, trials are not punishment—they are purification. This fire shapes us into the salt of the earth, preserving truth and adding flavour to the message of God’s love in a broken world. Though painful, the refining process produces lasting fruit—the righteousness and character God desires. So let us not despise the fire. Instead, let us endure it with faith, trusting that it prepares us for a purpose far greater than comfort.
