“If anyone is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him…” – Mark 8:38

We live in an age where faith in the living God is often ridiculed, and where speaking of sin and repentance invites hostility. Though the claims of God’s opponents crumble under serious reflection, we still hesitate to declare our faith. Fear of offending others, or of shame and abuse, keeps many believers silent.

Yet consider Jesus—who left the glory of heaven, took on human form, and endured shame, abuse, and death so that we might be forgiven and reconciled to God. If Christ bore all this for us, does He not have every right to be grieved when we are ashamed to bear His name? Staying silent about what Jesus has done can become an act of selfishness. Though it is never easy to share His love in a hostile world, may God give us courage and grace to proclaim His name without fear.
