“If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off…” – Mark 9:43

Jesus’ words here are striking—talking about cutting off hands and plucking out eyes. But He was not advocating self-mutilation; He was using hyperbole to stress the seriousness of sin. His point was clear: sin is not something to be toyed with or tolerated- it must be dealt with decisively and without delay.

Sadly, many misunderstand grace, treating it as permission to remain in sin. But true grace, revealed through Christ, leads us away from sin and toward holiness. God’s kindness is meant to bring us to repentance, not complacency. As temples of the Holy Spirit, we are called to pursue purity in body and spirit. We must be vigilant, not offering the parts of our bodies to sin but surrendering them to righteousness. Let us take sin seriously, uproot anything that leads us astray, and walk in the light, honouring the One who gave Himself to make us holy.
