Jesus’ actions on earth stood in stark contrast to the religious leaders and public figures of His time. After healing a man who was deaf and mute, He instructed the crowd not to publicize the miracle. Yet their awe couldn’t be contained. How different this is from the self-promotion we often see today, where leaders seek every opportunity to broadcast their good deeds.
This challenges us to examine our own motives. Are we driven to do good so we can be admired and applauded? Or do we serve out of love for God and others, seeking only His approval? When our efforts are rooted in pride, we become discouraged when recognition doesn’t follow. But when our actions flow from gratitude and a heart devoted to God, His quiet approval becomes more than enough. Let our hearts be set on honouring God, content to let our light shine for His glory, not our own.
