For children of God, an essential aspect of living in His will is allowing the peace of Christ to rule in their hearts. The word “rule” in the original language refers to an arbiter or umpire who guides and controls a game within the framework of its rules.
When Christ is the Lord of our lives, it is important to allow His peace to guide us in all our dealings and decisions. If we are sensitive to His leadership and concerned about the things that are important to Him, we will not be at rest when we do things that displease Him. The loss of Christ’s peace will lead to a restlessness that subsides only when we have taken corrective measures. When the peace of Christ rules in such manner in the midst of those who love Him, it will go a long way in fostering harmony and unity within the community of God’s children.
