“Masters, treat your bondservants justly and fairly, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven.” – Colossians 4:1

During the 1800s, proponents of slavery in the West produced a special edition of the Bible intended for use exclusively by slaves. This edition omitted vast portions of Scripture that clearly revealed God’s heart regarding slavery. Entire books, such as Exodus and Galatians were removed. Yet, God consistently calls for fairness and justice, demonstrating the same standards He, as our Heavenly Master, upholds for us.

Paying someone a salary does not grant you the right to trample on their self-worth, emotions, or rights. Being entrusted with an office and the care of others should not be seen as an opportunity to wield power, inflate pride, or secure personal comfort and status. Just as your Heavenly Master is gracious, just, and gentle with you, always seeking your ultimate good, so too must you care for those under your authority. Remember, all are equally created in the image of God.
