Can a holy God, who created the universe, come into the hearts of sinners like us? If we are reluctant to bare our hearts to the public, how much more wary would we be to open our sinful hearts to a holy God? Yet, there can be no surer way to ensure a future eternity in the presence of God than to have God dwelling in our hearts today.
The prophet Ezekiel, hundreds of years before Christ, spoke of the day when God would cleanse people from their impurities and give them a new heart and spirit. Furthermore, God would put His own Spirit within them and cause them to walk in His ways (Ezekiel 36:25-27). This glorious prophecy was fulfilled through Christ. Through Him, we are cleansed of our sins, our hearts and spirits are regenerated, and He lives in us. This intimate fellowship is the greatest assurance of eternal salvation.
