Throughout history, empires have risen in splendour and fallen in ruin. No matter how mighty their armies or vast their riches, every kingdom built on pride eventually crumbles. Human glory that is built and sustained by selfish ambition always invites God’s resistance, for He turns His face from the proud. Pride seeks to exalt oneself over everyone else including the Creator.
Many chase after fleeting glory — working tirelessly to impress others, to outshine peers, and to build names that time will soon erase. Yet Jesus reminds us that what is exalted among men is detestable to God (Luke 16:15). The glory of this world fades like morning mist, but the glory that comes from God endures forever. Lay down the pursuit of vain recognition. Seek instead the honour and the unfading glory that comes from God.
