People often become upset with God when they face the consequences of their own poor decisions. Students are frustrated when they fail an exam they didn’t study for. Employees feel wronged when they are denied promotions due to their inefficiency and lack of diligence—the list goes on. While not all suffering and trials are self-inflicted, much of it is.
God is not partial in His dealings with humanity. Some may argue that He showed Israel undue kindness, but they fail to recognize the severe punishments Israel received for its wrongdoing. Likewise, we should not assume that God will overlook our mistakes simply because we believe in Him. Though God offers forgiveness, the consequences of our actions may still be unavoidable. Therefore, let us be diligent stewards of all that God has entrusted to us, bearing good fruit rather than suffering the consequences of careless wrongdoing.
