The consistency of the joy you experience depends on the source from which your joy originates. If you draw your joy from your work, from people, or from your possessions and achievements, your joy will be as uncertain as its source. Every joy this world offers is temporary and will cease to exist one day.
There is a joy that we can experience within, which is not dependent on this world. Jesus promised that those who believe in Him would experience a spring of living waters within their hearts. This water is the Holy Spirit, freely given to those who truly thirst. Since the source is the Holy Spirit within and not the world around us, the result is a joy that overflows irrespective of the seasons of life. It is a joy drawn from the wells of salvation that the Saviour provides to all who are thirsty and choose to draw near.
