“Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting for those who belong to the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly.” – Colossians 3:18,19

Marriage is the first institution established by God, with its roots in the opening chapters of Scripture. It holds a special place in the heart of God. Yet, we live in an age where marriages are increasingly strained, with many ending in permanent dissolution. As a result, the very fabric of society has weakened, causing lasting damage for generations to come.

What does the Creator of man and woman require of them in the covenant of marriage to keep it firmly established? Wives are called to submit to their husbands, just as the church submits to the Lord (Ephesians 5:24). Husbands, in turn, must love their wives just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her (Ephesians 5:25). When there is respectful submission and selfless love, the marriage will flourish, reflecting the beautiful relationship between Christ and His bride, the Church.
